Social Bookmarking – Encourage Your Visitors To Share …
Dec 14th, 2007 by admin
I read a lot about Web 2.0 and Social Bookmarking back at the start of 2007, but never recognised how effective it can potentially be for pulling in traffic, therefore never dedicated any time to it as a traffic generating tactic.
Being offline though over the last few months, I’ve had the chance to revisit Social Bookmarking, I’ve read a lot about it and listened to a bunch of CD’s I’ve bought from various gurus. Going forward, WEB 2.0 techniques are going to be an integral part of my traffic strategies … if you have a web site I suggest you do the same.
Social Bookmarking sites allow you to bookmark any web pages you find that you like and are of value, that basically you want to revisit in the future. Importantly you can bookmark your own pages!
When you bookmark a page you allocate it a “tag”. A tag is like a keyword, it’s a word or words that describe the page, for example this post would be tagged with social and bookmarking. You, and others can then find the page in the future by searching on the tag.
If you bookmark this post on the social networking sites you’re a member of right now, my post will appear at the top of the tag listings on those sites for a period of time (until someone books a another page with the same tag). So by bookmarking my web page, or your own web pages, you will pull traffic in the short term. The more bookmarks a page receives, the more traffic it will receive as it will be prominent in the bookmarking site’s listings for longer.
Based on this information, I recommend you do the following things today:
- Go join the main social bookmarking sites today …
www.DIGG.com
www.del.icio.us.com
www.reddit.com
www.furl.com
- If you find this post interesting … PLEASE bookmark the post! Once you’ve joined the sites above, simply click on the icons at the bottom of the post and bookmark my content!
- At the same time, start bookmarking your own web pages.
- Finally, encourage others to Bookmark your pages (just like I’m encouraging you). A simple way to encourage others to bookmark your pages is to add bookmarking icons to your web pages. If you use Wordpress simply download the Sociable Plugin and you’re done!
Watch this blog, and in the next few days I’ll show you how to automate the process of bookmarking your web pages on a load of sites, and show you where to find a plugin and web page script to encourage your visitors to do the same … so bookmark the post and stay tuned …
Have a good weekend … and don’t forget to be sociable … Share and Enjoy!
Richard
