Why Not all Keyword Phrases Are Created Equally …

When you’re looking for keyword phrases to use for your web pages or Adwords campaigns, how do you actually know which phrases are likely to be profitable?
And even more importantly, how do you actually find them?
Firstly, the following factors will give us a clue as to how profitable a keyword phrase might be …
- the frequency of which the keyword phrase is searched on
- the number of other web pages competing for the keyword phrase
- how the keyword phrase is written
- how much Pay Per Click advertisers are bidding for the keyword phrase
- how closely matched your product is to the keyword phrase
- does the keyword phrase include a product or brand name
1. Keyword Phrase Search Frequency
Obviously the higher the frequency that a keyword phrase is searched on, the higher the probability that it will be profitable as it will drive you more traffic. If nobody searches on the phrase, you won’t make any profit from it!
2. Competition For Your Keyword Phrase
A heavily searched on keyword phrase won’t necessarily be profitable for YOU!
If thousands of other sites are optimising for the same keyword, you’ll struggle to compete and have little chance of getting your pages to the top of the search engine rankings. Therefore you need to identify keywords that attract “reasonable” volumes of searches, but don’t have too many other sites optimised for the same keywords.
3. Is The Keyword Phrase A Question
This is a key point. When you find a keyword phrase that gets a lot of searches and is a “question”, you’ve potentially got yourself a highly profitable keyword phrase to exploit. By question, I mean the phrase starts with “how” or “where” etc … the searcher needs information, they need an answer!
When you find a repeated question you’ve found a great way to establish yourself in a niche … create an information product that provides the answer and market it on closely related keywords … a 15 – 20 page report will establish you as an expert and help you build a profitable list!

4. How Much Google Adwords Advertisers Are Paying For The Keyword Phrase
If advertisers are prepared to pay a lot to display their advert against a keyword phrase, it follows that it’s a profitable keyword phrase, does it not? Life does n’t need to be complicated … if you find keyword phrases that cost a lot in Adwords, build “Adsense” pages around them … then find cheaper, less competitive keyword phrases to bring traffic to those pages …
All you need to know is how much advertisers are bidding for a keyword phrase … if its a lot and it gets traffic but isn’t too competitive, it should be profitable … if your product is closely targeted to it of course …
I’ll show you a great tool in a moment for finding information on Adwords bid amounts for keyword phrases …
5. How Targeted Your Product Is To The Keyword Phrase
Its essential that your product is closely aligned to the keyword phrase if you’re to make money from that phrase and achieve good conversion rates …
6. Include A Product Name In Your Keyword Phrase
Keyword Phrases that include a specific product name or brand name are likely to be high converting keywords if you’re going to use them for affiliate marketing, because people already have been pre-sold on them. We know they’ve been pre-sold because they’re aware of the product!
So there you have it, the criteria you need to identify profitable keyword phrases, all you need to know now is how to find the keywords, and how to find the information to assess them against the above criteria …
Tomorrow … how you can find all the information needed to assess keyword phrase profitability in one single place!
