Choosing A Profitable Niche
If your prime purpose of building a web site is to make money from Internet Marketing, you need to ensure that when you choose a niche it has the potential to make you a decent profit! If it doesn’t you’re wasting your time publishing a site in it!
As you probably know from my previous posts, I use Keyword Elite extensively to research both niches and individual keyword phrases. But if you haven’t got Keyword Elite, what do you do? How do you know if a niche will be profitable or not?
Here are some pointers:
Use Google To Research Competitors
Take some generic search terms for the niche you’re considering. Type each one into Google and take a look at how many results are returned (shown in the top right of the results page). Also look to see how many Adwords advertisers are advertising on each keyword phrase.
Where you see fewer than a million competing pages, you’ll have a chance of ranking well. The more competing pages you see the more likely there is money to be made. In particular if you see more than 10 Adwords advertisers bidding on the keyword, you’ll know there is a good chance they’re making money from their adverts.
Plus, the more advertisers are bidding on Adwords, the more money you stand to make from Google Adsense ads displayed on your site’s pages.
Use Clickbank To Explore Affiliate Income Potential
Visit the Clickbank “Marketplace” and do a search on the same generic keywords you used above. How many affiliate products are returned?
If there are plenty, there must be a market in place for them or people wouldn’t be producing products. Also if there are plenty, it means you have more options for monetising your site with ready made affiliate offers.
Search For CPA Offers On Clixgalore and Modernclick
Similar to Clickbank, search these sites specifically for Pay Per Click (PPC) and Pay Per Lead (PPL) offers. PPC and PPL are great ways to make money without having to sell something! If you can find these types of Cost Per Action (CPA) offers closely aligned to your targeted niche visitors, you can be more confident of making money from the niche.
Check StumbleUpon’s Categories
Take a look at the categories that StumbleUpon offer to their Stumblers. If they offer a category closely aligned to your proposed niche, you’ll potentially have a great source of free targeted traffic to profit from.
Content Availability
If after you’ve assessed the potential for Adsense, Affiliate and CPA earnings, you feel your niche is worth pursuing, you need to find out whether of not there is likely to be lots of content readily available for you to use to save you writing your own from scratch.
Take a look at EzineArticles.com. How many articles do they have listed for your niche? If there are lots its another good indicator that people are trying to make money marketing in that niche, plus it means there is lots of content you can pull from to create your own, without you needing to be an expert before you start.
Also take a look at PLRWholesaler. See how many PLR articles they’re giving away relating to your niche. Even better, see how many ebooks they’re giving away for your niche, because if they have any, you can start building a list by giving them away on your site … and building a list is the best way to make a lot of money!
By researching the points above, you’re covering the potential for making money from the niche, the potential for finding traffic, the potential for monetising your site and the potential for quickly pulling together content. All before you waste time entering a niche that has no profit potential!
As I said at the start I use Keyword Elite for my niche research. It tells me in a matter of minutes whether there is Adsense potential in a niche, how many Advertisers there are and how much they’re bidding. It also gives me a strong indicator as to whether or not I have a good chance to rank well in the niche, and which are the best keyword phrases to optimise for. In a couple of days we’ll discuss Part 3 of getting started … “Publishing Your First Site”
